Tech staffing firm Dice to host coding event in Ankeny next month

If developers want to take a break during next month’s Dice.com hackathon, the company was kind enough to set aside some time for you: from midnight to 12:01 a.m. Sunday morning.

The New York-based technology staffing firm, which has a large presence in Urbandale, will host a coding marathon in Ankeny. As part of the schedule of events for the two-day event, a one-minute “rest” period.

Coding marathons, known as hackathons, are notorious for attracting developers who work tirelessly for close to 24 hours straight, writing code (known as hacking) to build a product in a weekend. So perhaps a one-minute break is actually a bit lenient.

The hackathon starts at 9 a.m. March 15 and runs through noon the next day at the Des Moines Area Community College’s Future Farmers of America Enrichment Center in Ankeny.

The event focuses on mobile development, and the company will release its interface system before the event and features Dice’s vice president of engineering, Manish Dixit, as one of six judges.

So far, information at the event’s website is scarce.
