Research firm Aberdeen Group estimates that almost 26 percent of the average organization’s total workforce is contingent, which can include temps, consultants, independent contractors/freelancers, outsourced project resources, retirees, alumni and other nontraditional workers. Accessing and managing this “extended workforce” is often a fragmented process involving a mixture of technologies such as VMS, FMS, spreadsheets and other ad hoc tools.
